El Mundo have switched to Google maps for their street finder service, which, in hybrid mode, maps steet names onto sattelite photos of Spanish cities and towns. Little red arrows even tell you the direction of traffic! So, for ten points, which town have I zoomed in on above? Image © Google.
Marina tells all (favourite walks, restaurants, nights out in the capital etc) over at Mad about Madrid.

Ben and Marina head off to their old stomping ground, the wonderful Madrileño barrio of Lavapies, for a look at how things have changed since they lived in a flat on Calle Lavapies over 3 years ago (as described in Ben’s Errant in Iberia). If you are ever in Madrid and want to take a look around the neighbourhood, the leafy terrace bars on Calle Argumosa are a great place to start.
My ‘Notes from Spain Flickr group‘ photo of the month has to be this shot, recently uploaded by Steve W, and taken back in March in Valencia’s ‘Las Fallas’.
I may well be biased as Las Fallas is definitely my favourite fiesta in Spain, but I love the way the boy is leaping away from the flames. Keep posting your pictures to the group and let me know if you have any suggestions for next month’s winner!
El Mundo has a great photo feature on Easter celebrations in Spain. Makes you realise just how bizarre the Spanish are sometimes!
Semana Santa in Andalucia is one of the most incredible spectacles anywhere in Europe. Nazarenos (pictured above in Seville) from local church brotherhoods known as Cofradias take to the streets daily in white peaked costumes that date back to the Inquisition, to shoulder vast, ornate wooden floats, or pasos, bearing statues of the Virgin Mary.
Seville is the most famous place to see the traditional processions, but crowds can be a nightmare. Try Arcos de la Frontera for the back-whipping variety and late night fino-drinking, or Cadiz’s crumbling old town for its unique ‘strange goings on at the end of the earth’ atmosphere.

Ben and Marina visit El Escorial and fulfill a rather special listener request from the plaza in the picture below (click to enlarge).

Update: She said yes! Congratulations Eric and Sara on your engagement, we’re honoured that you thought of us to help you out!

The best of the month’s Notes from Spain Flickr Pool images goes to… Greg Gladman! Great images Greg, this one is of Street Lamps in Barcelona’s Plaí§a Real (as suggested by Deecree). A very difficult choice as there are some other great images on there, all contenders for next month’s winner! Keep posting guys! (More from me this weekend!)
